Spa VS. Store

why-skin-analysis-is-essential-spabeauty-nz-articles

Sometimes it can get difficult to know where to start when it comes to taking care of your skin. You can buy skincare online, at a beauty retailer such as Sephora or Ulta, from catalogs, from your neighbor, from the grocery store, from the corner store, from an esthetician… there are so many avenues, and SO. MANY. PRODUCTS.

It’s no wonder that people lose patience with skincare products when they are inundating you from almost every possible avenue. Our advice?  Skip Sephora, can that catalogue, go past the grocery store, and see an esthetician.  A catalog will never be able to identify what your skin needs, and a sales person is there to help you find and purchase products – it is highly likely that they did not study skin in-depth and are making recommendations based on information given to them by line-specific reps (who are also likely not skin care experts, but sales people). An esthetician has studied skin in great detail, understands the function of the skin, knows how to identify skin conditions and disorders, and most importantly, can help you choose the correct skin care regime to promote the healthiest, best skin you can achieve.

Estheticians also have access to professional grade products that will make a greater impact on your skin.  The main difference between professional grade and over the counter products is the quality and quantity of active ingredients.  Professional products will have a higher concentration of actives (ingredients which target a specific skin condition and improve it) from high-quality sources.  Over the counter products generally have less active ingredients, and usually from a source that is lower quality and cost.  Often times, professional products are more concentrated, so you will need less over time, and because of its efficacy, you will see results sooner.  Because the active concentration is lower in over the counter products, you will need to use more and it will take longer to get the results you wish to see.

What some people would consider the biggest asset to having an esthetician is that we are there for you! We are tracking your skin’s progress, we understand the product interactions with each other as well as your skin, and we are your partner in the process.  We are happy to educate you, treat you, and cheer you on as your skin progresses, constantly reviewing your routine to see what could be improved as your skin changes.  It is hard to find that in a sales associate, as they aren’t able to dedicate themselves to you and provide as much consistent interaction.

When you partner with an esthetician, it’s like hiring a personal trainer for your skin.  You’re not only given top notch facial treatments, you’re also given access to superior products at prices comparable to those you’d find in high-end cosmetics stores.

If you’d like to know more about your skin, and how an esthetician can assist you in improving it, book your complimentary consultation at Moonstone.  You can book online, or by calling us at 415-898-0426.  Come see the difference in Spa VS. Store for yourself!

It’s Fall!

fallbench

rojanietradeshowForgive us for being late but continuing education plays an important role at Moonstone. Rochell and I spent a few days in Long Beach at the International Congress Esthetics and Spa trade show. This year, we focused on learning the latest advancement in treating aging skin and skin of color. One of those advancements included LED light therapy. This technology uses different wavelengths to stimulate collagen and elastin, reduce inflammation and destroy acne bacteria in the skin which are concerns for many of our clients.

In addition, we took in classes and tested out new products including stem cell advancements, new international skin care lines, facial peels as well as treatments in microbladding, microcurrent and lash extensions.

And if that were not enough, when we returned we took an advance course and received our certification with PCA Skin treating “skin of color.” We are excited to integrate these new services and treatments for you and we are always happy to discuss these advancements at your next appointment.

October Special:
Add On LED Treatment to Your Facial ledmoonstone
For the month of October, you have the choice to add an LED light therapy treatment to your next facial.

You can either add a single treatment to treat your eyes, nasolabial folds or a pimple breakout for $10. OR treat the entire face for $30 when you schedule a facial, microderm or peel.

Checkout the example to the right showing LED light therapy treating the wrinkles around the eyes. You can see in the before image, the crows feet are prominent and skin appears dry and dull. The after photo, shows less wrinkles with hydrated and brighter skin. The client is in his mid-40’s, a commuter to the city and outdoor enthusiast. This result occurred in one treatment. That said, a series is recommended in rebuilding collagen and elastin to the skin.

Shorter Days, Cooler Temps, Pumpkin Spice EVERYTHING & Chemical Peels

autumn-02.jpg

Fall is in the air, Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back, and the weather will be cooling off soon, which means only one thing here at Moonstone:

dj57d0869d161c6

Fall and winter are the perfect seasons to make corrections in your skin.  Sun exposure is automatically decreased, the weather pushes us to more indoor activities, and you can make fewer lifestyle adjustments to accommodate your peel recovery.  Start thinking now about the changes in your skin, and contact us to book a complimentary skin care consultation so that we can begin making your face fantasy a reality!  In this consultation, we will be able to help you prepare for your peel so you will achieve ultimate results by spring.  What can you do to prepare for your peel series?

  • Drink water.  Lots of water.  Good hydration means supple, receptive skin that will better withstand the peel process with less irritation.
  • Choose the one change you’d most like to see in your skin.  Whether you want to see your acne cleared, your skin look firmer and more youthful, or to reduce hyperpigmentation or melasma, focus on solving that one issue first.  Bring that to us, and we can match you to appropriate home care to begin the correction process, which will allow your peels more success in the corrective process.
  • Use an SPF daily if you don’t already to get into the habit. Daily SPF use will help to slow the aging process over time, and in the short-term, will protect your post-peel skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays to allow healing.
  • Get a microdermabrasion.  3-6 weeks before your peel appointment, get a microdermabrasion to help buff off those dead skin cells littering the top of your skin. This will give you instant fresh skin as well as allow your peel to process more evenly.
  • Stop using prescription topicals 10 days prior to your peel application.  These contraindicate the skin’s condition to a peel. It is 100% possible to support the integrity of your skin while undergoing a chemical peel.  Your skin may be weakened from prescription medications and it could cause an undesirable reaction.

Get in touch with us for more information about what we can do with our peels to achieve your skincare goals!

FAQ on Lashes
What is the process of getting and maintaining eyelash extensions?

The application process is very relaxing – like receiving a spa service. You lie down on a plush table and have your eyes closed the entire time. Victoria will glue one synthetic lash extension to one of your natural lashes with medical grade glue. When your natural lash sheds, the extension will fall out with that lash. To maintain a full appearance, it is recommended to get a refill every 2-3 weeks. Your initial full set takes around 120 minutes, and refills can be done in an hour.
And how are your lash extension service different?

Applying extensions is a highly technical and skilled procedure. A bad extension job can be painful and damage your lashes. Unlike some of our competition, we are trained with Novalash and held to strict quality-control standards, and use the safest products. Our combination of great skill and excellent products will show in the longevity and the beautiful, natural appearance and feel of your lashes.
